Art of Photography Day 6: The Post!

Art of Photography, Day 6: The Post & Final Collages

By Ethan Zweig & Evan Garibay

Ethan - First half

In the morning we started with a daily inspiration presentation done by Mackenzie as she shared her inspiration for documentary photography demonstrating how photographers took photos of real-life realistic scenarios, such as a photographer who took a picture of a mother and children struggling during the great depression and a photographer who took pictures of everyday teenage life. After Mackenzie’s presentation, Dr. Lammel arrived after picking up our printed-out photos from CVS so that each of us could start our photo collage. The photo collage is the individual project each of us students is doing to show 10-15 photographs we took using techniques and styles we learned this J-term while having all of the images convey a theme, mood, or story. After getting our photos we all had to cut the photos and put them on our poster board in a way that looks creative and in a way that clearly demonstrates our theme, mood, or story. We worked on our boards until lunch.

Evan - Second half

For the second half of our 5th day, we had a quick drive over to The Post Houston, which is a great spot in town for lunch, as well as to take some interesting architectural photos. We had visited earlier in our course back in the first week, so fortunately we went to The Post with a pretty well-established knowledge of what we'd be getting into. We started by walking around, getting a general sense of what the space looked like, and how much space we had to work with, which was thankfully a good amount for our home stretch as our course comes to a close. After having lunch at a variety of different shops and restaurants from across the building, which was a great way for everyone to get something different from the person next to them. We took some time to enjoy lunch, before getting back into the swing of things at The Post. We used our remaining time to take some more photos around and on top of the building, before finishing off our day back at school with a trash and recycling reset and blogging time.
